Field Experiences
We learn best through our experiences. Thus, it is not surprising that clinical field experience is a key component of the University of St. Thomas Teacher Preparation Program.
The Education Department at the University of St. Thomas requires its students to participate in a broad array of field experiences. Experiences in schools in the community are provided throughout students’ education coursework, culminating with student teaching. Field experiences serve the following three primary functions:
- Shows prospective teachers what the job of teaching is really like
- Furthers prospective teachers’ learning and development
- Gives prospective teachers the opportunity to observe and apply concepts and theories from their coursework
We hope that the Field Experiences section of our website is helpful to you. In this section of the website you will find documents describing fieldwork requirements and expectations. We have also included a number of documents and forms that we think will be helpful to those involved with field experiences in general and student teaching in specific.
