Meet The Chair

Dr. John Leavins - The University of St. Thomas HoustonJohn R. Leavins holds a PhD in Accounting from the University of Houston and is a Certified Public Accountant. He has chaired the Department of Accounting at the University of St. Thomas for the past four years.

The Accounting discipline has experienced rapid growth in recent years due to the increasing complexity and globalization of business. Accounting majors have a wide array of employment opportunities in industry, public accounting, government, not-for-profit organizations and education. Accounting also serves as excellent background for those who plan to pursue careers in taxation or corporate law. The accounting program prepares student to pass all areas of the Certified Public Accountant examination.

The Department of Accounting offers three programs of study leading to a degree in accounting. Undergraduate students majoring in accounting have two programs of study available to them: the four -year Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA), and the five-year joint Bachelor in Business Administration/Master in Business Administration (BBA/MBA). The Department of Accounting also offers a Master of Science in Accounting (MSA). The department offers a minor in accounting for students majoring in other business disciplines.
