Assistant Professor in Theology

The Theology Department at the University of St. Thomas in Houston is seeking someone possessing or about to receive a terminal degree in theology to fill a full-time, tenure track position; a specialization in Scripture (emphasis given to New Testament studies) would be preferred.  A candidate should be prepared to teach upper division courses in Scripture.  He or she should also be conversant with the Catholic tradition of theology and philosophy and ready to contribute to core education.  The teaching load alternates between three and four classes of undergraduate theology per semester.  The candidate should be a practicing Roman Catholic who is faithful to Church’s Magisterium; he or she will be expected to receive a mandatum.  This position is contingent upon full funding.  Please submit a letter of application, a CV, and three references [including names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mails] to the Dean of Arts & Sciences:

Tenure Track Position in Art History
The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at the University of St. Thomas, Houston, announces a tenure-track position, subject to funding, at Assistant Professor rank in Art History beginning August 2009.

Ph.D. required with specialization in Medieval or Modern (19th-20th c.) art. Ability to teach a wide range of courses including survey, introduction to visual arts, area(s) of specialization, and special topics in art history related to interdisciplinary programs such as Catholic Studies.

Opportunities for additional summer teaching and in study abroad programs (Europe and Mexico). Students are Liberal Arts majors, Studio majors (joint program with Houston Museum of Fine Arts Glassell School of Art), and graduate students in a Master of Liberal Arts program.

The University Of St. Thomas Department Of Mathematics invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor beginning in Fall 2009.  The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Mathematics by the time of the appointment.  Requirements include a commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate mathematics combined with outstanding research potential.  Mathematicians from all research areas are welcome to apply.

Tenure Track Position in Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry & Physics at the University of St. Thomas invites applications for a tenure track, assistant professor position in chemistry beginning August 2009. 

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. and the potential for excellence in teaching undergraduates and in mentoring undergraduate research.  Teaching responsibilities will include courses and labs in General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry through fall, spring and summer semesters. Undergraduate teaching experience in the indicated disciplines,
postdoctoral research and a proven record of leading a successful undergraduate research program are all pluses.

Biology Professors
The Biology Department invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the assistant professor level to begin in August 2009: 

1) Organismal biologist with specialization in whole organism genomics.  Teaching responsibilities will include General Biology, Genetics and a course in area of expertise. 

2) Organismal biologist with specialization in molecular, biochemical and/or developmental approaches to organismal biology. 

Teaching responsibilities will include General Biology, Physiology and organismal course in area of expertise.  Candidates must have the Ph.D. in hand and must show evidence of excellent teaching, an active research agenda, and a commitment to liberal education and to Catholic higher education, especially as articulated by Pope John Paul II in Ex Corde Ecclesiae (available online or by request).

Professor of Philosophy

The University of St. Thomas in Houston TX is seeking an  Assistant professor, tenure-track, beginning August 2009. 

Five courses/year, undergraduate and graduate.  Usual committee work.  Ph.D. prior to appointment.  AOS: The Philosophy of Thomas Aquinas; candidate should understand and be committed to the philosophical vitality of the thought of Aquinas.  AOC: Metaphysics, or Philosophy of Law, or Social & Political Philosophy.  Record of excellent teaching and scholarly involvement appropriate to rank.  Competence in appropriate ancient and modern languages.
