Russian Studies Minor
The Russian Studies Minor program is an intra-disciplinary minor requiring a student to take18 credit hours to complete the minor.
The core sequence is the 2-semester sequence on Russia offered in History and the remaining 12 credits to complete the program may be selected from any of the courses offered in the program or approved for inclusion in a students program. Many of the courses have inter-disciplinary components. The courses are offered in most cases on a 2-year cycle and are cross-listed in most cases with the MLA program, Russian Studies and in many cases among other programs. These courses may be taken in any sequence and permission is required for freshmen or sophomores to take these upper division classes.
Core:
Medieval & Imperial Russia (Hist 4319) 3 credits
Russia from Alexander II to the Present (Hist 4320) 3 credits
Elective choice:
Regional Study of Russia & Eurasian States (INST 3358, Hist 4393) 3 credits
Russian Government and Politics (POS 4393 ) 3 credits
Students will take Special Topics electives and independent study courses to complete the minor such as Slavic Religion, Culture and its Byzantine Roots, Russia in Film or other topics. These are taken with the specific approval of the topic by the Russian Studies Committee. Students with Russian area courses from previous study are encouraged to transfer the credits into the program.
Study Abroad options are also available for study and travel in Russia.
Russian Language may be taken as study abroad opportunity in Russia or by approval at area universities.
